Is There Anything I Can Do to Make Dental Bone Graft Surgery Easier?

Do:

  • Apply ice packs to your jaw over the surgical site to reduce swelling

  • Eat soft, not-too-warm, and non-spicy foods for a few days

  • Keep your head elevated to minimize swelling

  • Follow your oral surgeon’s post-op instructions

  • Keep the surgical site clean

  • Use antibacterial mouthwash and take prescribed medications as directed


Don’t:

  • Disturb the surgical site

  • Drink alcohol for at least two weeks

  • Eat very hot or spicy foods

  • Exercise or lift heavy objects for at least 48 hours after surgery

  • Spit or swish vigorously

  • Smoke or vape
